I'm not a good waiter. I don't mean waiter, like "May I take your order, please?" but rather, someone who doesn't wait patiently well. Especially when it comes to finding out results that could be life-altering. Or not. Could be something. Could be nothing. Point is, I don't know the results yet and I don't know when I WILL know them. Grr.
I had a blood draw a couple of weeks ago to have my thyroid and iron levels checked, due to some weird hair thinning I'm having. My OBGYN wanted me to have the tests to see if those levels were ok before moving on to possibilities for the cause being my birth control or other meds I'm on... those levels were fine. He did find, tho, that my red blood cell count is a little high. Well, I went in yesterday for my yearly and he decided that he wanted another CBC done to recheck those high red blood cell levels... he said that it's probably nothing serious, but it could be Polycythemia, which is treatable, but will still suck (can be treated either with medication or with going once a week to drain, basically. Ugh.) Many causes for polycythemia, some of which are scary as hell... some of which are nothing. And I'm a hypochondriac (so is my husband!) so you can imagine the state I'm in right now.
As for the hair loss... still no answer. He wants to see the lab results first, then go from there. It might be something as simple as changing meds dosage, or I may have to go to a dermotologist.
blech. Getting older SUCKS.
